My name is Nick Vaughn, and I have a problem. I currently work at the 75th Street Brewery in Kansas City as a brewer and I've had lots of fun, but I'm having this itch. Some people call it a mid life crisis, some people call it insane, I call it something that I've wanted to do since I started brewing professionally and even if I fail at it, I need to know that I tried it. I'm talking about wanting to start my own brewery.
I have a chemical engineering degree, I worked for three and a half years at a regional specialty brewery in Boston, I've worked at a brewpub for two and a half years... but is that enough?
Answer: Probably not in and of itself, but when you plan on spending your three year old sons college money on your brewery, it makes you really want to succeed.
So I've done the research, the equations, the numbers, the thinking, the thinking, the thinking and most importantly, the convincing of the wife (although truthfully, it didn't take her long to support me). Everything is in place. I'm doing it. I'm starting my own brewery.
If you want details, you can go to http://www.doodlebrewing.com and read a bit about what I'm doing, where I'm at and what's going on.
As of right now, I'm just waiting for the bank to finalize the loan, which is in my hands right now since they need a piece of paper from another bank before they finish the approval. When that happens, everything is ready to move. The brewhouse is ready to be ordered, the location is almost locked in, the paperwork is filled out... I'm just waiting for that one magical day when I sign mucho paperwork to start this whole process and complete my succombing to my few passions in life
Making, drinking and sharing awesome craft beer with everyone.
